How to Run a Gun Club League

A league is the best retention tool a club has: give shooters a reason to come back every Tuesday and they will - for years. The difference between a league that runs itself and one that eats a volunteer's season is almost entirely bookkeeping. Here's the shape that works.

Pick a simple format first

• Weekly league - one round per shooter per week over 8-12 weeks; season total or best-N-of-M weeks wins.
• Flights - group shooters into A/B/C flights by average so every flight has a real race. New shooters compete immediately instead of donating.
• Handicap - added-target handicaps or yardage (for trap - see handicap yardage) keep sandbagging boring and hot shooters honest.

Make scores official, or standings won't matter

The moment prizes exist, "I shot a 24, trust me" stops working. The standings people argue least about share three traits: a designated scorer records the round, the shooter confirms their card, and nobody can edit a posted score afterward. That's exactly how ProClay events work - scorers seal posted rounds, shooters sign up to a flight and post, the leaderboard ranks live, and classes are earned from event scores alone.

Let the app do the volunteer's job

With ProClay tournaments & leagues you can host with or without a formal club page: shooters register themselves into flights and posts, squads score live on the field (one scorer runs the whole squad, even with no cell signal - rounds sync later), standings update the moment rounds post, and trophies stamp themselves. Sequential flights, course-required sporting events, walk-up guests - it's all handled. What's left for the organizer is the fun part: banter and prize tables.

Put your club on the map - literally

Every club on ProClay gets a free public page - stats, courses, area and events at proclay.app/c/<your club> (grab the exact link with the Share button on your club page). Add it to your club website and Facebook page so shooters searching for "trap league near me" find a live, current answer instead of a stale PDF. Want a ready-made button? Use the badge:

       alt="Powered by ProClay - live clay target scores"
       width="220" height="52" />
</a>

Paste that into your site (swap in your club's link), and your shooters land one tap from live standings.
